A great article in Brownstoner today that features the type of people that make Brooklyn stand out as the best place in NYC, and therefore, the planet to live.
The article features Rotimi Akinnouye and his foresight and drive to bring neighborhood building business’ to Bedford Stuyvesant. Over the past several years he’s opened a wine shop, a brew pub, and now a cocktail bar to deepen his commitment to the renewal of his community.
There are people like Rotimi in many Brooklyn neighborhoods. I can think of pioneering chef, Alan Harding, and how opening his restaurant, Patois, was the turning point for Smith St, to transform from a desolate, dark, dangerous strip, to an international food and shopping destination.
Then you have the mayor of Carroll Gardens, Buddy Scotto, who almost single handedly, turned the Gowanus Canal from “Lavander Lake”, a putrid urban blight, blossoming into a soon to be Federally cleaned, privately developed, urban escape.
Remember, it’s people that make the neighborhood, and Brooklyn people are the best!
